Pensato per quegli uffici o quelle persone che usano il computer per tante ore al giorno, e poi si dimenticano di spegnerlo, sprecando tantissima energia, questa applicazione (gratutita) vi permette anche di metterlo solo momentaneamente in modalità risparmio energetico se vi alzate per esempio per andare in bagno.
Abbiamo sempre criticato le aziende che usano tenere i PC accesi anche durante la notte, ma non avete idea di quanta energia sia sprecata quando non si usa il terminale per le pause più disparate che possono essere di un minuto per un bisogno urgente, ma anche di un’ora, ad esempio in pausa pranzo. Quanti di voi spengono il PC per andare a prendere un caffè? E allora ecco la trovata di questa compagnia brasiliana.
Si chiama Green Cam, si può scaricare da questo link, ed è un’applicazione gratuita che attiva la vostra webcam (senza registrare nulla ovviamente), e la fa “comunicare” con il computer. Quando siete davanti alla camera il computer funziona normalmente, ma quando vi allontanate invia un segnale al PC per comunicargli di mettersi in modalità Sleep.
Secondo i calcoli dei produttori dell’applicazione, un’azienda con circa 200 dipendenti risparmierebbe un centinaio di euro al mese (ma pensate ad esempio ad un internet point). In una bolletta domestica la differenza sarebbe di 1-2 euro per volta, ma a parte che fare bene al portafoglio, sono ben noti i benefici per l’ambiente visto che si eviterebbero le emissioni di CO2 per tonnellate. Certo, se poi anziché usare quest’applicazione ognuno di noi prendesse la buona abitudine di inserire la modalità risparmio energetico al proprio computer tutte le volte che non lo usa ma non ha intenzione di spegnerlo, risparmieremmo anche quel pizzico di elettricità che ci vuole per far funzionare la webcam.
