Nell’umido rientrano tutti i composti organici, quindi bucce di frutta, avanzi del pranzo (ed in questi giorni chissà quanti ce ne saranno), ma non necessariamente si tratta di avanzi alimentari, dato che vi può rientrare ad esempio anche la pelle degli abiti, i fondi di caffè ed anche foglie e rami tagliati dal proprio giardino. Forse non ne siamo consapevoli, ma i rifiuti organici sono da soli un terzo di tutta l’immondizia che produciamo oggi, ed è questo il motivo principale per cui essi vanno riciclati.
Infatti, a differenza di altri materiali, l’umido non porta tanti vantaggi nella produzione di nuovi oggetti (il massimo del riutilizzo consiste nei fertilizzanti agricoli), ma il guadagno sta nel risparmio nello smaltimento. Trattandosi infatti di un terzo di tutta l’immondizia totale, se la riciclassimo avremmo molta meno spazzatura da smaltire, con conseguente risparmio in termini di tempo, di spazio, ma soprattutto di emissioni nocive.
Poi comunque rientrano anche i vantaggi effettivi, dato che in agricoltura l’humus formato da questi materiali è indispensabile, dato che lascia lentamente azoto, fosforo e potassio, vitali per il ciclo agricolo. Per questo motivo il riciclaggio dei rifiuti organici può avvenire direttamente in casa propria. E’ utile infatti gettare le bucce nel vasetto che teniamo sul balcone, o meglio ancora nel giardino di casa, per chi ce l’ha. Questo contribuirà a nutrire il terreno che farà crescere meglio e più in fretta le nostre piante. Per questo motivo è anche più semplice degli altri materiali da riciclare. Infatti basta separarlo dal suo contenitore (dato che una materia organica è organica completamente) e gettarlo negli appositi cassonetti. Niente di più facile.
