L’azienda aveva bisogno di ripulire dall’erbaccia i cinque ettari di terreno che circondano la fabbrica e le pecore avevano bisogno di straordinari di… cibo. Eh già, perché i pascoli scarseggiano e di aree verdi in cui pascolare liberamente inizia a sentirsi la mancanza. Inoltre, come lamentano da tempo gli stessi allevatori, oltre alla riduzione degli spazi verdi, si sta assistendo ad un progressivo aumento del costo delle materie prima necessarie per nutrire gli animali da allevamento.
E così, coniugando le rispettive esigenze e traendo reciproci benefici in termini di risparmio ed enormi vantaggi ovviamente anche per l’ambiente, la Whirpool ha assunto le pecore dell’azienda Binda di Malgesso, in cambio di vitto. Gregge disponibile al lavoro stagionale localizzato grazie all’intesa tra l’azienda stessa e la Coldiretti di Varese, presieduta da Fernando Fiori.
Le pecore sono falciatori ad impatto zero. Con l’arrivo della bella stagione, l’erba deve essere tagliata periodicamente perché cresce a vista d’occhio ed il gregge ci si mette particolarmente d’impegno, facendo un lavoretto pulito in tutti i sensi e risparmiando tempo, energia e denaro all’azienda.
La Whirlpool, oltre alla falciatura green, annovera, tra i fiori all’occhiello della sua politica ambientale, una centrale di cogenerazione, situata al confine dell’area protetta del Lago di Varese e la cessione alla Provincia della palude Brabbia. Nicola De Guida, direttore dello stabilimento di Cassinetta, è fermamente convinto che un’armonica convivenza tra industria e natura sia possibile. In riferimento nello specifico alle pecore falciatori impatto zero, De Guida spiega:
