La superbike Ion Horse elettrica è stata creata alla Kingston University, con i finanziamenti della compagnia energetica Ecotricity, ed è stata portata sull’isola di Man per competere nella gara tra i veicoli ad emissioni zero, la gara motori elettrici più famosa del mondo.
Il costo non è nemmeno troppo elevato, trattandosi di un prototipo. 150.000 sterline, circa 170 mila euro, Vince aveva come obiettivo di raggiungere il record della prima moto elettrica a completare un giro del circuito con una velocità media di oltre 100 miglia all’ora (161 km/h), con picchi calcolati sui 140 mp/h (225 km/h) vincendo così il premio da 10.000 sterline messo in palio dal Governo dell’Isola di Man, che finora non è stato mai vinto da quando la manifestazione è stata fondata.
Sulla scia della nostra macchina alimentata dal vento, la Nemesis, arriva l’Ion Horse, la nostra moto eolica. I ragazzi di Kingston hanno costruito una macchina incredibile. E’ un’altra grande dimostrazione di come i trasporti di un futuro molto prossimo saranno alimentati dall’energia rinnovabile, made in Green Britain – e con inquinamento zero.
Il funzionamento non è stato ancora spiegato anche se, dalle prime anticipazioni, pare che dovrebbe funzionare come la tanto contestata Nemesis, l’auto eolica che però è rimasta solo un protipo.
