La Maldive affondano, l’appello del Presidente a far pagare le emissioni

E’ passato quasi un anno da una delle manifestazioni che hanno fatto maggior breccia nel cuore della gente di tutto il mondo: la riunione subacquea dei Ministri delle Maldive. Eppure le conseguenze sono state ben poche. Di mezzo mille riunioni, la conferenza di Copenaghen e tante iniziative in favore dell’ambiente, ma la situazione non è cambiata. Per questo Mohamed Nasheed, Presidente dell’arcipelago, torna a far sentire la propria voce.

Un aspetto di cui purtroppo nessuno si è ancora reso conto, almeno tra i potenti della Terra, è che ciò che sta accadendo alle isole dell’Oceano Indiano non si ferma solo lì, ma è destinato a coinvolgerci tutti.

Ciò che accade a noi oggi, può succedere a voi domani. Si pensi a una città come Venezia. In un certo senso, siamo già tutti maldiviani

Una situazione che lo ha portato a cercare una nuova terra per il suo popolo, per poter trasferire i maldiviani quando le loro case saranno sommerse dall’acqua. Una conseguenza che pare sia inevitabile, almeno allo stato attuale. Ma come fare per evitare tutto ciò? Il primo passo è semplice, spiega il Presidente, e cioè far pagare le emissioni. Secondo lui questa soluzione sarebbe più forte della rivoluzione industriale, in quanto

le fonti rinnovabili diventerebbero più economiche dei combustibili fossili, nascerebbero nuovi posti di lavoro e i Paesi consumatori di petrolio non trasferirebbero più le loro ricchezze ai venditori stranieri.

Ma se i negoziati di Copenaghen sono falliti, la speranza che i prossimi non faranno la stessa fine c’è. Nasheed ha fiducia nell’Europa, in quanto unica superpotenza che si sta davvero impegnando per la risoluzione del problema ambientale. Peccato che sia chiusa dall’ostruzionismo della Cina e degli Stati Uniti. Ma secondo lui, basterebbe osare di più per riuscire ad ottenere degli ottimi risultati. Conviene a tutti ridurre la propria dipendenza dai combustibili fossili e, tra gli altri vantaggi, sarà possibile anche salvare uno dei posti più belli del pianeta come le Maldive.

  19. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  23. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
