E’ come se, per farci perdonare dall’ambiente, ognuno di noi ogni anno dovesse pagargli una “bustarella” da 300 euro. Fosse così facile, avremmo già risolto, ed invece siccome non esiste una “cassa dell’ambiente” che risolve tutti i problemi, il costo ci viene restituito con alluvioni, smottamenti e temperature impazzite. Il calcolo di quanto ci costa l’inquinamento prodotto dalle diecimila aziende europee più inquinanti l’ha effettuato l’Agenzia Europea per l’Ambiente che ha calcolato tra 102 e 169 miliardi il costo delle loro emissioni nel solo 2009.
Ciò che ci fa ancora più orrore è che circa la metà di questo peso già di per sé insostenibile proviene da appena 191 strutture, a cui verrebbe voglia di chiedere i danni. Il rapporto, intitolato “Rivelazione dei costi dell’inquinamento atmosferico provocato dagli impianti industriali in Europa”, è stato condotto dal team della professoressa Jacqueline McGlade che ha spiegato:
La nostra analisi rivela gli elevati costi causati da inquinamento da centrali termiche ed altri impianti industriali di grandi dimensioni. I costi stimati sono calcolati utilizzando emissioni indicate dagli stessi impianti. Utilizzando gli strumenti impiegati dai decisori politici per valutare danni alla salute e l’ambiente, ci ha rivelato alcuni dei costi nascosti di inquinamento. Non possiamo permetterci di ignorare questi problemi.
Dunque ciò significa che anche se il costo già di per sé è alto, potrebbe anche rivelarsi maggiore se le aziende avessero mentito sulle loro reali emissioni. Le attività più inquinanti sono ben note: raffinerie, centrali elettriche, alcuni attività industriali ed agricole ed in generale tutte quelle aziende che prevedono processi di combustione. Inoltre sono stati tenuti fuori i costi dovuti al trasporto comune dei cittadini, che è stato dimostrato essere il settore più inquinante al mondo, e le emissioni domestiche. Insomma, quella mazzetta da 300 euro a testa che dovremmo all’ambiente sicuramente è più pesante, e dovrebbero pagarla prima di tutto i Paesi più inquinanti (Germania, Polonia, Francia, Gran Bretagna e Italia).
