La Giornata Mondiale dell’Ambiente, o World Environment Day, è stata istituita dall’ONU nel 1972 per sensibilizzare cittadini e istituzioni sulle tematiche ambientali e per incentivare uno sviluppo sostenibile delle risorse. Oggi compie 40 anni, ma come è cambiata l’attenzione per l’ambiente e l’ecologia in questi anni?
Ognuno può partecipare alla Giornata Mondiale dell’Ambiente con iniziative verdi e sostenibili: la piantumazione di un albero, la pulitura di un parco o di un giardino, la pratica della raccolta differenziata, la scelta di non mangiare carne per un giorno, di fare la spesa senza utilizzare la macchina e preferendo la sporta allo shopper…sono moltissime le idee per sostenere la causa e per aiutare l’ambiente ad aiutarsi. Per monitorare le buone azioni fatte nella giornata del 5 giugno, ci si può registrare sul sito dedicato all’evento e segnalare le proprie azioni sostenibili. Al momento ne sono state registrate già da tutto il mondo!
La Giornata Mondiale dell’Ambiente quest’anno è dedicata alla Green Economy e alla valutazione di come i 10 settori di intervento dell’economia verde siano all’avanguardia per tecnologia e per fatturato. Edifici, foreste, pesca, acqua, trasporti, approviggionamento energetico, agricoltura, industria, turismo, manifattura, spreco delle risorse. Per ognuno dei settori nella Giornata Mondiale dell’Ambiente si festeggiano le storie di successo, quelle che hanno cambiato la società e le realtà locali, quelle che possono essere prese ad esempio per il futuro dell’economia globale. Gli esempi citati nel sito del World Environment Day lodano lo sviluppo delle energie rinnovabili in Cina, settore che solo nel 2009 ha creato 300.000 posti di lavoro; gli incentivi all’agricoltura organica che in Uganda vuol dire uso dei fertilizzanti chimici inferiore al 2%; ma anche di gestione sostenibile delle foreste in Nepal; o crescita dell’uso dell’energia solare in Tunisia. Tutte realtà che hanno fatto e che faranno la differenza nell’uso delle risorse in futuro e nella creazione di occupazione e sviluppo.
