Corea, il delfino Sampal evade dall’acquario e torna nel branco

delfinoLa storia del delfino Sampal è interessante sotto diversi punti di vista. Anzitutto è bella: una novella a buon fine, si potrebbe dire, ma è anche un esempio delle possibilità di riabilitazione e reinserimento dei delfini in mare: le difficoltà che sostengono coloro che li tengono in cattività, sono davvero così grandi? O dietro ci sono questioni di business?

La storia del deflino Sampal sta facendo il giro del mondo. Sampal è stato catturato quattro anni fa in Corea, e per tre anni è rimasto in cattività in una vasca sotterranea nell’acquario Pacific Land, in Corea del Sud. L’alta Corte coreana un anno fa, dopo due anni di prigioni, aveva deciso per la liberazione in mare. Ma i tempi sono lunghi.

Sampal, quindi, si riguadagna la libertà da solo. Riesce a scappare attraverso un buco della struttura e a ritrovare la via del mare. Stando a varie fonti (riprese peraltro da La Stampa) sembrerebbe che Sampal dopo la fuga sia rimasto in prossimità dell’acquario, come stordito dall’immensità del mare che si trovava di fronte. Ma sono ipotesi tutt’altro che comprovabili. A ogni modo, Sampal a un certo punto si è lanciato tra le onde e di recente, secondo l’Istituto di ricerca sui Cetacei, Sampal è stato avvistato a circa 100 km di distanza, in mare aperto, assieme ad altri 50 delfini. Riunitosi al branco e al mare.

Ric O’Barry del Dolphin Project ha dichiarato: “Una volta che ne hanno la possibilità, i delfini sanno esattamente cosa fare; quindi non sono affatto sorpreso che Sampal abbia deciso di riconquistare la libertà”. Ma più interessanti a nostro parere sono le parole del direttore scientifico dell’Enpa, Ilari Ferri, che sottolinea come bisogna mantenere un occhio particolarmente critico riguardo alle possibilità di liberazione così come sono presentate da chi mantiene i delfini in cattività. Difatti è bene ricordare che

le strutture della cattività, nel timore di vedere compromesso il loro business milionario, sono in prima linea nel sostenere che i percorsi di riabilitazione e il successivo rilascio in natura dei delfini sono non solo destinati al fallimento, ma pericolosi per la salute di questi meravigliosi animali.

Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
