Sull’auto ad aria compressa Eolo se ne sono sentite davvero tante. In molti si erano messi in lista d’attesa quando, nel 2001, al Motorshow di Bologna Guy Negre, ingegnere progettista di Formula 1, presentò l’auto che avrebbe rivoluzionato il mercato dei motori: Eolo, la prima auto ad aria compressa.
Da allora si scatenarono fazioni opposte, e cioè da una parte coloro che si volevano liberare del costo della benzina, acquistando un’auto che aveva come forza motrice la semplice aria; dall’altra chi avvertiva che si trattava semplicemente di una bufala, e che addirittura un’auto ad aria compressa fosse controproducente.
Le caratteristiche dichiarate di quest’auto erano che, utilizzando delle bombole ad aria compressa che si riempivano in soli 3 minuti, si potevano percorrere fino a 200 km con una velocità moderata o 100 km alla velocità massima consentita (110 km/h). Il costo per percorrere 100 km era stimato sui 77 centesimi di euro, che equivalevano al costo energetico che serviva per rifornire le bombole.
Le argomentazioni portate invece dal fronte opposto erano prima di tutto che non era possibile utilizzare una tale auto, dato che l’aria compressa portava, con la decompressione, ad un abbassamento di temperatura del motore fino a -40 gradi, sufficienti a farlo ghiacciare. Poi si opponevano all’idea che quest’auto fosse ad impatto zero, perchè l’aria compressa non è una fonte primaria, e per produrla c’era bisogno comunque di energia elettrica, prodotta dal petrolio, e quindi l’inquinamento avveniva ugualmente. Altro argomento era il costo, troppo elevato per una tecnologia ancora non totalmente sicura, ed inoltre nemmeno tanto efficiente.
Fatto sta che la produzione dell’auto, che doveva avvenire anche in Italia, è stata troppo spesso rimandata, dal 2002 al 2004, e poi più nulla fino alla svolta indiana del 2007. Gli annunci dati in pompa magna dall’azienda Tata, di cui vi avevamo parlato già tempo fa, sembravano dover commercializzare la Minicat e la Citycat (le uniche due auto ad aria compressa in progettazione) già per il 2008, ma anche di loro non c’è più traccia, tanto che non ci sono riferimenti nemmeno sul sito ufficiale. C’è chi parla di complotto, chi di bufala, la verità non si conosce ancora, ma se ci saranno novità (o se ne avete voi), ve le daremo il più presto possibile.
