Per questo Amsterdam sarà la prima città europea a sperimentare le automobili ad aria compressa.
Promesse già nel lontano 2001 e tecnicamente pronte solo in India grazie alla Tata, finalmente esse sbarcano anche in Europa, grazie alla Motor Development International (MDI) che ha sede non nei Paesi Bassi, ma in Francia, a pochi chilometri da Nizza.
Le caratteristiche di quest’automobile sono a dir poco strabilianti. Prima di tutto, possono lottare ad armi pari con le piccole auto da città, il modello del futuro, visto che sono lunghe soltanto due metri, ma danno posto anche a 3 passeggeri, a differenza delle due delle auto mini finora utilizzate. Ma le caratteristiche che la fanno essere l’auto più ecologica del mondo sono altre.
Prima di tutto le emissioni: zero. Essendo alimentata ad aria, è facile capire che sono più economiche (nel senso della CO2) rispetto anche alle auto ibride. Per fare un “pieno” d’aria, hanno bisogno di pochi secondi e di un costo veramente irrisorio: un solo euro. Con un pieno è possibile percorrere fino a 200 km, mentre per quanto riguarda il futuro, la “resistenza” promessa sarà anche maggiore. Il prototipo che sarà sperimentato ad Amsterdam avrà una velocità massima di 70 km/h, ma sono in progettazione anche auto che raggiungono i 110 km/h e che contengono fino a 5 persone.
Per il futuro, promettono dalla MDI, si arriverà anche a costruire auto che raggiungeranno i 160 km/h e avranno le caratteristiche delle auto moderne utilizzate per fare lunghi viaggi. Inoltre dureranno anche di più rispetto alle altre auto ecologiche esistenti oggi. Ad esempio la batteria delle auto elettriche moderne dev’essere sostituita ogni 5 anni, per quella ad aria compressa non ce n’è bisogno perché non esiste alcuna batteria. Ma alla fine, quello che più conta per farla entrare in commercio, è il prezzo. L’Airpod, così l’hanno battezzata per l’ingresso nel mercato europeo, costerà solo 3.500 euro. Con queste caratteristiche, si candida ad essere sul serio l’auto del futuro. Sempre che qualche lobby del petrolio non le metta i bastoni fra le ruote.
