Le api stanno morendo, a dirlo sono diversi studi scientifici che accusano i pesticidi di decimare i laboriosi insetti. In Europa i pesticidi killer sono stati messi al bando e la popolazione di api in queste zone è aumentata sensibilmente, ma negli USA la strage continua.
L’importanza delle api nell’intera catena alimentare non è da sottovalutare: oltre a produrre miele e nettare, questi insetti impollinano il 90% delle piante e delle coltivazioni. Il costo in denaro delle perdite alimentari è di circa 40 miliardi di dollari, quello ambientale inestimabile. Oggi le api arrivano solo al 4% del totale di qualche anno fa. Forse la causa non è solo nei pesticidi, ma anche nella perdita degli habitat naturali.
I pesticidi più pericolosi per la vita delle api sono quelli neonicotinoidi impiegati per proteggere i semi di mais, ma anche la soia, la colza, le barbabietole da zucchero e il grano dai parassiti. Tra le sostanze tossiche da bandire il più dannoso per le colture e la vita delle api è il noto prodotto Bayer il cui utilizzo in Italia, Francia, Germania e Slovenia è stato bandito da tempo. Il risultato è stato il ripopolamento delle popolazioni di api nei territori italiani ed europei. Legambiente che si è schierata dalla parte degli apicoltori italiani, condanna l’uso di tali pesticidi. Anche perché basterebbe mettere in atto periodicamente la coltivazione con rotazione colturale ed impedire la monocoltura. L’approccio che privilegia l’intervento chimico, con uso di concia delle sementi con i neonicotinoidi ha dato prova d’essere assolutamente inappropriato e incapace di contenere le popolazioni del coleottero nord americano. Per combatterlo basta cambiare periodicamente coltivazione con la rotazione colturale, che non richiede alcun uso d’insetticidi e di seme conciato.
Dopo mesi di silenzio, dal 20 settembre 2010, data in cui l’uso dei pesticidi neonicotinoidi è stato bandito per legge, il movimento di Avaaz riporta il tema sulle prime pagine e invita tutti a firmare la petizione per vietare l’uso dei pesticidi killer, se vuoi firmare visita la sezione dedicata del sito Avaaz.

Sarebbe anche tempo di parlare dei danni a carico delle api nelle zone in cui questi neonicotinoidi sono usati sulla flavescenza dorata delle viti per debellare lo scafoideo vettore della malattia, tra l’altro spesso senza buoni risultati.
Le nostre api muoiono da anni causando, oltre al disastro ambientale, anche il disastro economico della nostra azienda e mettendo a serio repentaglio la nostra sopravvivenza! condivido la tua indignazione, è veramente assurdo che di fronte all’accertamento dei neonicotinoidi non venga preso alcun provvedimento! Negli ultimi anni c’è quasi una sorta di pacata rassegnazione alla moria delle api, che invece si potrebbe tranquillamente evitare mettendo al bando gli agenti responsabili!
