San Paolo, 14 morti al giorno per l’inquinamento

In Italia ci lamentiamo per l’inquinamento, ma a questo punto in Brasile dovrebbero attuare una rivolta civile. L’Università di San Paolo ha dimostrato come nella megalopoli carioca che conta oltre 20 milioni di abitanti, muoiano ogni giorno 12-14 persone a causa dell’inquinamento.

“I danni alla salute provocati dall’inquinamento atmosferico sono sentiti particolarmente dalle persone denutrite, dai portatori di malattie cardio-respiratorie, dai neonati: ma tutti comunque ne patiscono gli effetti”

Queste le parole del professor Paulo Saldiva che ha condotto lo studio. Nei mesi invernali, oltre al solito inquinamento prodotto dalle auto, si crea anche una cappa sulla città simile a quella vista a Pechino prima dell’inizio dei Giochi. Il dramma è che, nonostante la grandezza e l’affollamento, la città non ha mezzi pubblici adeguati, non esiste la metropolitana e adesso si sta sfiorando il collasso, dato che oltre 6 milioni di vetture sono troppe anche per un territorio così grande. Il dramma sembra non avere fine, visto che l’obbligo di utilizzare le auto a bioetanolo è slittato dal prossimo anno al 2012, anno in cui i morti per inquinamento potrebbero risultare molti di più.
